Working on Your Cat’s Terms
One of the reasons that I love cats so much is their independence. Your cat’s behaviour is a reflection of its personality, so to make the best images we need your cat to be in control.
Of course we may manipulate them here and there with a treat or a toy, but the process begins and ends with what they want to do.
Pre-shoot Phone Call
While we can’t always predict the behaviour of our feline friends, we can at least predict where and when the lighting will fall.
Prior to the agreed date, we’ll have a phone or email conversation and work out the best time for the shoot, considering everything from your availability to the best time of day for the required light.
A lack of light doesn’t have to stop us though! I have a number of lighting options available. I try to avoid flash as this can often make our subject a little jumpy – but it varies from cat to cat and I’m happy to be guided by your understanding of your cat’s behaviour.
Black Cats
“But my cat is black and doesn’t show up very well on photos.”
I hear this all the time, and while it may be true for standard phone photography, as a professional photographer I am able to use a combination of editing skills and the correct lighting to ensure that we get thoroughly detailed photos of your black cat!
Take a look at the detail in the black fur of the cats at the top of this page for evidence!

How it works
1
Pick your preferred time and date using my online calendar. You can also use this to book a free pre-shoot consultation if you have any queries.
2
I call you beforehand and we will discuss the practical aspects of the shoot, such as the best time for the shoot, the likely behaviour of the cat and things you can do ahead of the shoot do to help create the best possible images. This is your chance to ask as many questions as you like, and I’ll use my experience to help us create the best possible experience.
3
When I arrive I’ll put my equipment down in a suitable location and we’ll spend some time letting the cat become comfortable around me. They can sniff me, climb on my bags, give me headbumps – whatever they want!
4
We’ll start off working slowly and quietly, allowing your cat to become comfortable with both me and the camera. We might then move on to feeding them, playing with them, or taking photos of you cuddling them.
5
You’ll get to see your progress as we go. The great thing about digital photography is that we can review the images instantly.
6
Within 48 hours I’ll send you a gallery of the unprocessed images. You select your favourites, which I will then professionally edit and send to you within 48 hours.
7
If you wish to order prints, you can purchase a package either before or after the shoot.

Cat Photography Testimonials
These are all amazing, thank you! It’s so nice to see him on a photo where he’s not just an unidentifiable blob.

We so love the photos you have taken of our Billy and how you have captured his character – a lovely, big, easy going purring cat. He really is a cat walk model in the making!
